| Cover | Title | Authors | Rating | Date Read | Notes |
|---|
 | Jackson | MAX BYRD | 3 | 12/1/2000 | Would have been a D or an F, but the last hundred pages or so were interesting. Otherwise, the first 200 - 250 pages were quite dull. I almost gave up on this book several times. A piece of historical fiction concerning the life of Andrew Jackson. |
 | Neuromancer (Ace Science Fiction) | William Gibson | 4 | 9/1/2000 | Hard to explain - but a good book. Winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards. |
 | Foundation's Triumph | DAVID BRIN | 5 | 8/1/2000 | The conclusion to the "Second Foundation Trilogy," this one written by one of my favorite Sci Fi authors. |
 | The Perfect Storm : A True Story of Men Against the Sea | Sebastian Junger | 4 | 8/1/2000 | The true story of an unnamed hurricane like storm of the Altantic coast of the US, October 1991. Half of the book tells the story of the Andrea Gail, a fishing boat that vanished in the storm. The rest of the book is about some of the survivors on the sea durring the storm. |
 | The Last Full Measure | JEFF SHAARA | 5 | 8/1/2000 | A very good sequel to his father’s (Michael Shaara) book, Killer Angels. Follows Lee, Grant and Chamberlain through the last years of the Civil War and the years following it’s end. |
 | Return to Mars | Ben Bova | 5 | 8/1/2000 | A great sequel to Mars. The part navaho indian Jamie Waterman returns to Mars on a largely privately funded trip to Mars. His goal is to return to what he alone believes could be an alien cliff side village in the canyon explored on the first trip. |
 | Little Green Men : A Novel | Christopher Buckley | 4 | 7/1/2000 | A stuffy Washington political television personality believes he is abducted by aliens, and goes on a crusade to convince the government to study the possible presence of aliens on earth. A good book. At times, very funny. |
 | Gods and Generals | JEFF SHAARA | 5 | 7/1/2000 | I was torn between an A and a B grade for this book. The A won out because I just found it too interesting a book for a B. I’m very interested in the Civil War, and this book took advantage of this vulnerability successfully. It tells the story of the year leading up to the Civil War, and the events of the war leading up to the Battle at Gettysburg. |
 | High Fidelity | Nick Hornby | 4 | 6/1/2000 | A man chronicle’s his failure in relationships with women, and his overall failure as a person. A pretty good book. Very funny at times. |
 | Aftermath | LeVar Burton | 4 | 6/1/2000 | An above average science fiction story about a future America ravaged by Civil war and racial tentions. Three people are drawn together to save a woman who might just have some of the answers to some of our basic problems. |
 | The Cider House Rules | JOHN IRVING | 4 | 6/1/2000 | An orphand who grows up in a orphanage, never being adopted, finds friendship out in the world. I had trouble rating this book. It took forever to get into (6 weeks), but it set you up to be touched. Last half was very readable, and the ending was wonderful. |
 | Personal Injuries | Scott Turow | 4 | 4/1/2000 | An unscrupulous attorney agrees to work for the government to catch corrupt officials. A good book by Mr Turow. |
 | Billy Straight : A Novel | JONATHAN KELLERMAN | 3 | 3/1/2000 | A so-so book about a runaway child that is a witness to a brutal murder, and the female detective that is brought on to find the killer before the killer finds the witness. |
 | Timeline | MICHAEL CRICHTON | 5 | 3/1/2000 | Scientist discovers a means of traveling to the past. When a historian becomes trapped in the past, his coworkers are sent back to find him. A good read and a very engaging story. |
 | The Sportswriter | RICHARD FORD | 5 | 2/1/2000 | Over the course of Easter weekend, a man who should be beleagered by his current circumstances looses the last remanants of his familiar life, yet comes out with soaring spirits. A man who has little use with self pitty, finds his way. A good book, and a welcome change of pace from other books I have read. |
 | Black Sunday | THOMAS HARRIS | 4 | 2/1/2000 | A good page turner for a “B” rated book. Vietnam vet plans an act of terrorism, and gets help from palestinian terrorists. An Israeli intelligence officer works with the FBI to search out and stop the plot. Overall, a good book. |
 | Frameshift | Robert J. Sawyer | 5 | 1/1/2000 | A geneticist, whith a genetic predisposition for Huntington’s disease, falls for a colleage with mind reading abilities. Both of them are victims of a strange genetic experiment. A great book. Does not rank among the elite (my favorites), but definitely belongs among the “A’s”. |
 | Left Behind | Tim Lahaye, Jerry B. Jenkins | 5 | 1/1/2000 | One of my favorite books. The story of the rapture, and of those who are “left behind.” The story follows the life of a pilot and his daughter, a famous reporter, and the sudden rise to power of a charismatic leader. An excellent story, and a good read. |
 | The Laws of Our Fathers | Scott Turow | 4 | 1/1/2000 | School friends from the turbulent 60’s are reunited for a murder trial. The judge, the defendent, the defendent’s lawer, and the defendents friend all get back together after a life altering event splits them up (in the 60’s). A good book. |
 | Orion | Ben Bova | 3 | 12/1/1999 | Orion, the hunter, is an eternal warrior traveling backwards through time. He fights an enemy in different key moments in history, in order to preserve the time line, and mankind. Good book with what turned out to be a so-so premise. A bit of a disappointment. |
 | Red Dragon | THOMAS HARRIS | 4 | 12/1/1999 | First book with Hannibal Lecter. FBI agent is lured out of retirement to catch a serial killer. He is forced to seek the assistance of the last killer he caught (one that almost killed him), Hannibal Lecter. |
 | Enigma | Robert Harris | 3 | 11/1/1999 | A bit of a disappointment. The fictionalized account of the breaking of the German U-boat code in WWII. A boy genius breaks the code. The boy genius has a breakdown. The Germans catch on. The boy genius is brought back, fragile though he is, to break the code again. |
 | Red Square | Martin Cruz Smith | 4 | 11/1/1999 | Arkady Renko is allowed to return to his old job in Moscow after “reforms” under Gorbechev bring about a change in the political climate. Story takes place one year after the fall of the berlin wall, and just before the coop in Russia brings Yelzin to power. Renko is once again called on to investigate a murder with political / international implecations. |
 | Moonwar | Ben Bova | 5 | 11/1/1999 | Sequel to Moonrise. Colonists defend the moonbase against those on earth who would destroy it. The colonists rely on nano-technology to sustain them. Earth has made it illegal. A good sci fi page turner. |
 | Flashforward | Robert J. Sawyer | 4 | 10/1/1999 | An experiment in Europe causes the consciousness of humanity to get a preview of life in the future. One man is obsessed with the investigation of his murder, while the scientific team tries to discover how this phenomenon happened in the first place. A pretty good book. Premise worked out better than I thought it would. |
