Charles F. Knights


JAMAICA -- Charles F. Knights, 92, of Jamaica, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.

He was born in Bucketville, Vt., on July 5, 1915, the son of Archie and Hilda (Giese) Knights.

Mr. Knights married Ruth Staples on June 11, 1940. He began his work career as a truck driver, drawing logs. He also worked in other logging endeavors. He was also a skilled carpenter. He was the caretaker for Ken and Jerry Melis until he retired.

He sugared from his early childhood until his 80s when he was no longer able. He loved hunting and fishing, telling stories and his family. He loved going to his hunting camp with family and friends often staying all season. He would often go hunting at dawn and not be seen again until sunset forced him home.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Knights is survived by a daughter Maxine Lowe and her husband David, of Jamaica; two granddaughters, Karen Bills and her husband Bob of Jamaica, Terry Chapin and her husband Brian, also of Jamaica; and five great-grandchildren, Amanda Bills, Matt Bills, Stuart Chapin, Tyler Chapin and Ashley Chapin.

He was predeceased by a brother, George Knights, and two sisters, Margaret Frost and Elizabeth Connor.

A service of remembrance for Charles Knights will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Knights family home in Jamaica.

Burial of his cremated remains will be held at the South Hill Cemetery, also in Jamaica, later this spring in the family lot.
