• Pergo? What Pergo?

The floor situation is unchanged. Cheryl’s patience is not.

    Weekend? What weekend?
I’m two days into the work week, and I can’t immediately recall what I did this weekend. It has been that kind of week (so far). The good news is it’s almost over. Thursday is a holiday and I’m taking Friday off. Woo hoo! The bad news? Do you remember what I said about the Pergo? Well, guess what I’ll be doing on my long, “holiday” weekend?

  • Sadness.

Nearly four years to the day after our friends helped us move into our new house, our friends in turn are moving to their new house – in another state. Technically, they will still be living in the “south”, but just barely. We will be living at opposite ends of “the south”, so this is of little consolation. O.K., I’ll admit it, I’m more than a little jealous too. There is much that we like about living in Florida, but summer is not one of them. What time of year is it now?

  • It’s still raining.

The volume of rain we have been getting has been approaching ridiculous levels. We went about six months with virtually no rain, and then this last week or so we get about a year’s worth all at once. Although we need the rain, it pains me to see so much of it fall all at once. It’s all going to waste. I stand outside on my front porch and watch a river of fresh water rushing off to the drainage system that will deliver it all to the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, two months from now we’ll be in the middle of another drought and all of that water will be long gone. If I were inclined to care for my lawn, I would kill for a cistern or something similar to catch and store all of that run-off rain water. Once you get beyond the cost of building the thing, you would have free water for irrigation. Oh well, it was nice to see the rain.
