Beth approves
I gave up writing reviews some time ago. I’d never been happy with them. At some point I decided I’m not very good at them and my days as an amateur critic* came to and end. You may have noticed the book cover in this post, wondering if my decision to give up writing reviews lasted less than fifty words.
Don’t worry friends, I’m not going to torture you with a review, but I am going to make a recommendation. Beth is not an enthusiastic reader of fiction. She loves National Geographic, and she brings a new book on astronomy home from the library every week. Dannette Haworth’s first book: Violet Raines Almost Got Struck By Lightning is an exception. If you’re daughter is looking for a good book to read, consider this one.
*If you want to torture yourself, you can see them all here.

What not to wear
An interesting AP article about a “dress code” at some PA polls…
Sue Nace thought election volunteers were joking when they told her she would have to remove her T-shirt to vote in the presidential primary last spring.
It was an Obama ’08 campaign t-shirt.

Favorite Rays moment
An Australian relief pitcher who doesn’t just talk to himself on the mound, he yells… after every pitch? My favorite moment after seeing the Rays first two playoff games was Grant Balfour inviting Orlando Cabrera to sit his ass down (after a Cabrera tried to egg him on).
Yeah, Longoria’s home runs in his first two at bats in the playoffs – as a 22 year-old rookie (the first coming on the first pitch he saw) was cool… but I didn’t see it. Curses! I was at work listening on the radio. Damn you TBS!
I hope the Rays make a habit out of this playoffs thing.
