Do you know the feeling?

I’ve spent most of the last 48 hours in the same spot. More than you wanted to know, right? Here’s more: I’d say I’ve been high on cold medication, but I think most of them are technically downers. If tonight is any gage for tomorrow’s prospects, we may have more to look forward to tomorrow. Ah, but there’s a bright side to all of this. I’ll have time to…

Last minute plans

At nine o’clock this morning I approached my boss with a question disguised as a statement: “I’ll understand if the answer is no, but I’d really like to go to the Obama thing this morning.” I said it with a pinch of man-pout and a hint of pleading in my tone… because I have no shame. I stayed until ten, tying up some loose ends, then took off for home. I grabbed…

Personal shortcoming

More than one person told me recently they skip my political rants. I wanted to ask why. Is the writing bad? Is it old news? Does the tone put them off? Then I asked myself, “why do I care?” I’m not big on plans or goals. Part of the yearly review at work is a short q/a on our occupational goals. My answer is never very impressive: to understand my weaknesses and do a little…

Verizon: better than you think we are

It’s been a while since we dropped the land-line. We’re relying on our cell phones full time. It’s worked out well so far, or until recently when we stopped getting a signal on our block. Mommy I'm scared

I almost forgot to tell you about my airport experience coming back to Florida from the wedding weekend. It wasn’t really much of an experience so don’t get your hopes up. We were walking around General Mitchell Airport looking for something to tide us over until wheels down in Orlando, when I spotted a disturbing sight: a young man wearing a baby blue t-shirt with the word…

Father time

I just want to get one thing straight from the get-go: I’m nobody’s old man. A few things recently have bothered me though. No, I’m not talking about the last few posts. For one thing, I keep running across fellow parents who look like they were born after I graduated from high school. That’s just wrong, but the crushing blow came this evening. Half the teachers we met at…

Cubed

Last week I lost an office but I gained a cubicle. It was all part of the state’s plan to join the effort to rid western civilization of the scourge known as privacy. It’s true that some employees have done everything in their power to prove they don’t deserve privacy, spending their time on the clock performing a wide range of activities unrelated to that which they are paid to…

I am a child of the 70's and 80's

… therefore my taste in music is automatically suspect. Cheryl suffered the same fate, yet she still chuckles when she hears the West Wing theme come up on a random play through my iTunes playlist. Hey, I like an occasional rousing reminder of one of my favorite fictional Presidents. But what does the West Wing have to do with the 1975 – 1989 music scene? Nothing but me baby! (I feel…
