The President’s Advisors

One of my favorite pastimes these days is nit-picking public statements made by public servants. A fine candidate came up this morning. General George Casey, Commander of the Multi-National Force in Iraq (the military wing of The Coalition of the Willing), was on the radio in an interview on NPR. General Casey says you can’t judge our success in Iraq by enemy action, or by statistics on…

Civil War?

The President’s words were heard on the radio this afternoon. Discussing the possibility that Iraq had fallen into “Civil War,” the President said (not his exact words, but as close as I recall), “I’ve talked to a lot of people… and the people I’ve talked to all want a united Iraqi government.” And you know what? I have no doubt that’s true.

The Executive versus the Courts

If you read nothing else of this politically slanted entry, please read at least one line. I feel really strongly about it. Read it and go on with the rest of your life with my blessings. Don’t listen to conservative pundits who insist the judiciary is overstepping it’s bounds… reigning in the possible excesses of another branch of government is by design, right smack in the…

Upton update

With yet another Rays loss last night, I went fishing for some good news. BJ Upton, one of the Rays’ top twenty fielding short stops this year, was moved to third base 12 games ago. The move was made possible with the acquisition of another short stop prospect via trade with Houston. Prior to the trade and subsequent move to 3B, Upton had an error per game rate of .318 (28 errors in 88 games…

Pulling up the rudder

I took a career and life planning course while I was in college. One of my least favorite exercises was the “long range plan.” It turns out this exercise ranks as THE most useless project of my college career. Your friendly neighborhood meteorologist has a considerably better chance of predicting the weather 10 years out, than your average naive (and lets face it, pretty stupid) 19…

George live

The man was on Larry King this evening and discussed many issues, one of which was the New York Times. “I have a problem with people revealing state secrets…. With people revealing our game plan to the enemy…. We’re at war.” All of this comes on the heels of a little “discussion” with my wife earlier this evening. She asked me, “You think it’s…

Little people

Have you ever heard the myth that short people tend to be the biggest braggarts? If true, imagine what it would mean if you were the totalitarian ruler of a smallish, extremely poor country; AND, you were only 5′ 3″? I give you Kim Jong-il, leader/ruler/supremely powerful person** of the ironically named “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.” First of all, someone…

Free what?

I don’t have anything particularly insightful to say on the New York Times vs. George Bush debate… you know… the one where the New York Times, through its investigative reporting of government spying programs, is reportedly “giving comfort to our enemies.” Neither fool, nor sloth, nor slowness of wit will keep me from my appointed rounds. I will expatiate on my…
