We’re thinking it turned out something less newsworthy than a child abduction happened yesterday. We’re pretty sure a kid plucked off the street by strangers near a school bus stop would get at least a mention on the local news web site. Nothing’s been reported.
I may try to talk Cheryl into calling the sheriff’s office tomorrow just to make sure (she’s the one in law…
I never make predictions. I’m well known in the office as a sports pessimist. I always think my teams are going to lose. It’s easier that way. But I got a little ornery this spring when a couple of my coworkers started the annual bit of Rays bashing (sure to be followed by a large dose of indifference). I did that thing I never do. I made a prediction. (Not that I want to rub it in or…
It’s been a while since we dropped the land-line. We’re relying on our cell phones full time. It’s worked out well so far, or until recently when we stopped getting a signal on our block. It’s been pretty infuriating, considering the damn phones work everywhere else. I get a better signal in elevators and stairwells than in my backyard, so I figure it’s not my phone.
Talking Points Memo | Just Thinking:
Let me get this straight. John McCain’s top economic advisor, former Sen. Phil Gramm, is the guy who authored the deregulation law that most agree is the ultimate cause of today’s financial meltdown. Tomorrow’s and probably next week’s too. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. John Thain, CEO of Merrill Lynch, which swirled into…
I’m not a big Andrew Sullivan fan, but I’m with him on this one (a couple days ago):
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan:
For me, this surreal moment – like the entire surrealism of the past ten days – is not really about Sarah Palin or Barack Obama or pigs or fish or lipstick. It’s about John McCain. The one thing I always thought I knew about him is that he is a…
I had this one typed up last night but thought it might be overkill yesterday. If I start posting more than three or four entries in a day you’re going to think I don’t have a life. Well, that may be true, but I hate to be quite so obvious.
Here’s a response to McCain’s most recent dip in the muck: falsely accusing Obama of supporting comprehensive sex-ed to kindergartners…
(trichinosis?)
Yeah, but is Paul making that bit up about the lobbyist?
Washington Post (9/2/2008):
As mayor of Wasilla, however, Palin oversaw the hiring of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh, an Anchorage-based law firm with close ties to Alaska’s most senior Republicans: Rep. Don Young and Sen. Ted Stevens, who was indicted in July on charges of accepting illegal gifts. The Wasilla…
Yeah, I know I’ve been a little obsessed. In my defense, it’s pretty freaking important. Anyway, here’s a quick summary of a political discussion I witnessed today:
“I don’t share many of Palin’s political views, but she’s only McCain’s VP pick. I’ll take my chances with her and McCain over eight years with Obama’s pastor.”
My reply…
I almost forgot to tell you about my airport experience coming back to Florida from the wedding weekend. It wasn’t really much of an experience so don’t get your hopes up. We were walking around General Mitchell Airport looking for something to tide us over until wheels down in Orlando, when I spotted a disturbing sight: a young man wearing a baby blue t-shirt with the word…
